Week 12 and all is well

We had our second appointment with the perinatologist last week & all looks good.

We will have ultraounds every time we go as typical ways of measuring healthy pregnancy growth just don't mean much. Thus, most of our time is spent with the ultrasound tech. It takes quite a while to get all three babies to wake up/stretch for appropriate measurements! We are then seen by our "secondary" provider (a physician's assistant) who does blood pressure checks/blood draws or whatever happens to be on tap for that appointment, and answers what questions she can. Finally, after all that we see the doctor who answers any questions the physician's assistant couldn't answer. The rhythm of the appointment feels somewhat like a typical OB appointment...just longer.

But the most important part of the appointment - all babies are fine and growing well. They actually look like little people now & it was great fun to watch them move around and carry on as if this were a perfectly normal pregnancy...and I guess for them, it is.

I was 12 weeks 1 day at our appointment, but here are the babies' respective measurements:

Triplet A - 13 weeks with a heart rate of 153 (120 to 160 is normal at this point)
Triplet B - 13 weeks 1 day with a heart rate of 161
Triplet C - 12 weeks 4 days with a heart rate of 159

So, even though I had lost weight (thank you constant nausea) the babies had grown well and are measuring ahead of schedule. The doctor was very pleased with this as, unlike singletons, triplets' rate of growth will slow toward the end of a pregnancy as they just simply run out of room. Thus, having them a little ahead of schedule now is a good thing.

They did prescribe an anti-nausea medication for me to take as needed in order to help me function a little bit better and to allow me to eat...3,500 to 4,000 calories a day is the goal you know! The medication helps but does make me sleepy. Here's to staying awake at Christmas dinner!

Christmastime is here!

This picture of Joshua was just too cute not to post. It was his first time visiting Santa & he did great! He also told us that he informed Santa he wanted a train for Christmas. Needless to say, there will be a train under the tree on Christmas day.

In triplet news, we have our next perinatologist appointment on the 18th of December. Until then I continue to search for ways to combat the evening nausea. Good times all around!
